Changing Gears

For three and a half years, it was just Andrew and I. He had me all to himself. NowAndrew has had to change gears and share me with "Benny" as he calls him. In due time, all of the things we enjoyed together will again find themselves in our routine and will be more fun as a threesome. But try explaining that to his sweet three-year-old eyes that can only see as far as the moment at hand. He has been so desperate for my one-on-one attention that he accepted a trip alone with me to Publix as though I had just asked him if he wanted to go to Disney World. He is now my new partner in errands I used to enjoy running solo and I'm glad for his company.

During the past 6 weeks, we seem to only have enough time during the day for necessary errands. So Saturday morning I decided to change gears and include him in a more special outing. I took him along with me on a not-so-typical errand... a Book Fairy mission.

Last September when I was in New Hampshire, I met a writer and artist from Santa Monica named Christine Mason Miller. She has written a book, Ordinary Sparkling Moments and has been spreading beauty, love, and creative inspiration around the world (literally) through her 100 Books Project. She does this in person as well as via Book Fairies, people who plant Christine's books in various cities for her.

I had attempted my mission several times but due to the weather, naps, nursing, and life I had to give up my expectations for the "perfect" outdoor spot and use one a little safer. So Andrew and I packed up and headed to a local coffee shop and bakery.

He was very excited to play along and was even willing to pose for a few pictures (imagine that).

I allowed him to select the table and to place the book. He might be the youngest Book Fairy yet!
He was very proud of his good deed and was all smiles and giggles when we left. Something I had been attempting to do for the better part of two months took me all of 15 minutes, but it was worth the wait because I had my little partner with me. I look forward to seeing if anyone found Christine's book and if they decide to contact her. If nothing else avails I will remember it as a fun morning spent, just the two of us.

What a fun adventure to be involved with. I am sure Andrew will remember this outing as one of the reasons his mom is so awesome.

Awwwww. Brother has a friend who is called "Baby Ben" and I laugh every time that I'm reminded you have your own baby Ben.

So good to have you blogging again...and to hear what you and the boys are up to. Oh to have spied on the book after you left and to discover what happened!
