I gave up sweets for lent. Does this mean I can't put sugar in my coffee? What about Splenda or Stevia? Does this also mean I can't have my chocolate flavored protein shakes for breakfast anymore? Please, someone shed some light!
I think it depends on whether you meant "candy and baked goods" or "sugar." I think of "sweets" as candy/baked goods. After all, there would be sugar in a lot of things (cereal, some crackers, etc) that I would not really refer to as "sweets." Tough question though.
I meant things that fall in the "dessert" category I guess. I still felt a little weird putting sugar in my coffee. I think I'll go artificial until Easter.
ummm... i don't put sugar in my coffee anyways, but i've already decided that mint mocha latte's are off limits!! i am not allowing myself soda either... just because that would be an easy substitute for a craving, and i don't want to start substituting things cause it's not what this is about. i guess in the end, it is up to you. i'm trying to do a little detox, so i'm going kind of extreme :)
In my mind, sweets are candies, sugar and baked goods. Otherwise, you would have to include fruits which are very sweet. And if you use stevia, it is not sugar but it also is NOT ARTIFICIAL either. It is a plant extract, not a chemical. I love you- Mom
I use splenda in my coffee. But I'm not eating donuts or cookies or anything like that. Of course, I'm on a strict no-sugar diet anyway - but I do like a little touch of sweet on occasion!
I think if you PRETEND to be diabetic and follow a similar diet, you'd be okay on the no-sugar thing.

I think (just my opinion) that the artificial sweeteners would be okay.

IMHO, Sweets would be more in line with baked goods and candy. Desserts. When we would give things up, it would be specific like Candy or chocolate.
I didn't get anyhting up this year. I'm trying to give up quick to anger with my kids though.

I think it means you can't eat fish.
Everything else is okay.
Truthfully, though, the point is giving up something that you'll miss...so don't eat the things you really want to, I guess.
