Sense of humor

Thanks #4: A God with a sense of humor.
I am sure you have heard this before from other first time parents. Before we had kids, we could have written the book on parenting. We knew everything there is to know about the subject. Since we have had one child, we have consulted books, parents, friends, Bible, Internet, Drs, TV shows, blogs, forums, etc. and still don't know 1% of what there is to know...and never ever will. All of our "know it all" moments have come back to haunt us. We attribute this to the fact that our Lord has a very good sense of humor. I mean really, in the midst of all of His daily miracles, healing, comforting, answering prayers, and carrying all our burdens, the Big Man has to laugh once in a while, right?

Enter "us", new parents.

One moment I specifically remember was being in the airport last December. As I passed through the security check point with my stroller and my sweet, immobile, 3 month old who couldn't even roll over on his own yet. I placed him the stroller as I put my shoes back on and didn't buckle him in. As I strolled my way through the airport the remaining 50 yards to my gate, I proudly held my head high noticing all of the stares directed at my precious, adorable, Gerber-faced bundle of joy. Then my bubble burst as a large black woman blurted, "Hey Lady! Yo baby is fallin' outa yo stroller!" I looked down and there was Baby Boudreaux, somehow clinging to the stroller tray, all but arms and head dangling. Hm. Guess I should have strapped him in.

A more recent example are, temper tantrums. "Geez, lady. Get control of your kid!" is what I would say to myself. Now, I just ignore his outburst and have others ask, "Do you need help?" I usually reply with, "No, that is so sweet! Do you need help?"

Here is a tantrum that took place last night over the fact that I would not let him chew on the balloon. At least this one took place behind the walls of our home.

And for goodness sakes, can someone please get the kid some pants that fit him?

One thing that makes me laugh is that we are now in an "Anything round goes on my wrists" phase . Daddy really likes this one. Apparently this is normal because my brother once wore a purple, plastic bucket on his head for 2 months. Dad insists it was because he thought it was an army helmet. Ah-hem.
Baby Boudreaux likes to wear my big Velcro rollers, rolls of masking tape, my hair rubber bands, and yesterday, this lovely orange plastic milk ring that was found in the driveway. The best part is that he couldn't get this one off and on himself, yet insisted that he wear it. Picture here is another tantrum as I was trying to help him take it off, put it on. You may ask, "Why didn't you just take it away?" Cause it bothers Jason and I have a sense of humor too.

Finally, there are the "never to old to pee on mommy, daddy, or the carpet" moments. There were two last night. One, as I was holding sweet baby about to put him in the tub he peed on me. The second, as he ran neck-id through the house while I was attempting to put his diaper on, he stopped and peed in the doorway of his bedroom. Lurvely.

This is so funny and true! Before I became a Step-Mother I was one of those people who wondered why kids acted the way they did in public. Did the Parents ever do anything about it? Now I really get it..anyone who doesn't have kids...has no clue!

You are so right.
I don't have kids but am with two of my nephews (2 1/2 and 19 months ) alot. I sometimes just have to ignore what other people are saying regarding what they do. Boys will be boys.
